Qeshm

Qeshm is one of the islands of Hormozgan province, which is the largest island of Iran and Persian Gulf. Gheshm Island, with an area of nearly 1500 km2, has the most beaches and coasts in the Gulf. The coastal features of the island are a variety of rocky, sandy, and muddy beaches that are found in few islands. Zaitoon rocky beach, the sandy beach of Simin and the beaches of Goliloft and Mangrove forests show the diversity of Gheshm’s beaches.The Rigo Crusoe Beach, also known as the Tortoise Beach, is the other beautiful beaches of Gheshm Island, where turtles come to breathe and feed on water.At south of the coastline, is dolphin habitat that has attracted tourists.

 

Gheshm weather conditions
Gheshm is warm and humid, while the relative humidity of the air is high. The average annual temperature in the Island is about 26 ° C, but the seasonal temperature difference is very high. The warmest periods are 10 July to 10 September and the coldest months are January and February.

Salt domes


Salt Mountain is in the southwest of the island. The salt dome of the mountain with the remains of ancient salt mines and springs of salt water has created a “spectacular natural monument” with educational and recreational facilities.

Stars Valley


Berkeh Khalaf village is located five kilometers from the southern coast of the island. In the north of the village is the Stars Valley. The Locales have been named this area Kofteh staleh. However, the name of the valley of the stars is located for this geologically demanding phenomenon. Due to the special shape of the valley and the various types of erosion phenomena in it, the winds and air flowing at the among of the columns and holes, so it makes sounds, because the people believe that with the darkness of the air, the valley is the Place of departure of ghosts and goblins, so they refused to enter it at night. In fact Stars Valley is an eroded area by surface waters, seasonal storms and gusts. The primary plateau remaining still undisturbed in the northern section is located at an altitude between 7 and 15 meters from the valley floor. Also Noted cones, erosion pillars and columns, arches, and blades and striped walls are seen in the valley. Due to loose nature of the layers,, it can be expected that after any intense rainfall (which rarely happens) there is a significant change in the morphology of the valley.

Portuguese Fortress


The Portuguese Fortress in Gheshm and other forts in the east of the Loft have been equipped with large balls that time. The duty of the fortress was supporting the castle of Hormuz, which was provided fresh water for the Portuguese fortress in Hormuz. The construction of this castle in 1621 led Shah Abbas to fight against the Portuguese and expeled them from the Gulf coast.

Gheshm Geopark


The plains, valleys, beaches, and mountains of the island are unique and inimitable in terms of vegetation, wildlife, and the presence of rare geological phenomena. There are also rare and unpredictable geological phenomena in this part of the island. Natural sculptures, flaws and amazing mountains, flat surfaces at high altitudes, columns of erosion, hills and temples that the hands of the nature artist created marvelous statues of various shapes like turtles, dogs, lizards, or even human faces in anger and screaming … all and all are a great part of the nature of fascinating Gheshm.

Park of Crocodile
The first and largest Crocodile Park in the Middle East is located in Gheshm Island. A beautiful and safe place for tourists to associate life and characteristics of these rare animals.

Food and Souvenir


Date is one of the most famous and most important souvenirs in southern regions of Iran. Hormozgan province and Gheshm islands are no exception. In different markets, you can buy fresh and high quality date varieties.
Heller Village is located 18 km from gheshm. One of the sweets that cooked in this village is called Heller Cake. Heller Cake is a sponge cake that mixes flour, eggs, sugar and vanilla. In Gheshm, most grocery stores have this Cake. Since you cannot find this cake anywhere else in the world, it’s the best choice as a souvenir.
In Gheshm, more than 20 kinds of local bread are cooked, one of the most famous of which is Tamooshi.
Marine crafts


During the tidal of the sea, a large number of oysters, snails and other marine animals remain on the islands. The indigenous people collect them, and they make a variety of embossed boards, pendants, curtains, jewelry, statues and various objects.

Wicker Handicrafts


Wicker handicrafts are also made and prevalent throughout the province of Hormozgan. Weaving mat should be considered as the most common and most popular handicraft industry in the province of Hormozgan, because the primary material required for weaving is palm leaf. This raw materials are abundantly available to artists, and various types of wicker products is prevalent in the province.

In addition to indigenous and resident populations, Gheshm Island has a large number of non-indigenous and migrant populations, mainly in the sectors of commerce, industries and mines, government departments and agencies, , and other services sectors. Also, a significant number of tourists – especially in fall and winter seasons and the Nowruz holiday – enter the island.
